Antoine Griezmann admits Atletico Madrid move was a failure

Antoine Griezmann has revealed that his return to Atletico Madrid this season has been a difficult and disappointing experience.

Antoine Griezmann

has talked up about his season-long frustrations with

Atletico Madrid

. After becoming disillusioned at

Barcelona

, the French international chose to return to

Los Rojiblancos

on a season-long loan at the start of 2021/22.

With a €40 million buy clause that must be activated by 2023, Atletico can prolong his loan for another 12 months. Griezmann's return to Madrid, however, has not had the desired effect, with only three

La Liga

goals so far.

In the coming weeks, the 31-year-old will make a critical decision about his future, although he is certain to remain in Madrid. "I'm striving to get back to my best level after being wounded." According to

Diario AS

, "I haven't scored goals and the team has missed that."

"I must accept responsibility for the poor results. I want to be a big part of the team next season; it's not normal for me to go so long without scoring."

Griezmann is on course to finish the season with his lowest goal total in league play, but with eight in all competitions, he has surpassed his worst all-competition return, which he achieved with Real Sociedad in 2010/11.
