Manuel Pellegrini on his success as a manager

Following his achievements with Real Betis, Manuel Pellegrini is being hailed for challenging in the European places and contributing to the Cop del Rey this year. Some even people believe that he may become the manager of the year in Spain.

Manuel Pellegrini

had an interview with Chilean radio program Keno Trotamundos, where he talked about his career. He also talked about the Copa del Rey victory and the fact that many are calling him the best ever Chilean manager.

“It moved me a lot that they shouted my name. The celebration, the atmosphere and the euphoria of the fans. We went on the bus to celebrate and there were 45,000 people around the stadium. That’s a thrill and an experience that I have seen few times in my managerial career. It was a very beautiful feeling.”

He was also quizzed about his shot-stopper Claudio Bravo, who he brought in two years ago and notwithstanding many major mistakes, most importantly in the Seville derby, he stay trusts the captain of the Chilean national side.

“When you have a player that has been at Barca, Manchester City you know he is going to give you a plus. He was finishing his contract, he knew La Liga inside out, so the decision was easy.”

He talked more generally about his career and admitted that "90% of the success of a manager is the management of the group,” which is not emphasized as the defining trait for managers.

He was then asked whether he is interested in the national team position, he insisted that it wouldn’t be soon.

“I like managing a club more than a national team. The job of national selector is more administrative with less time on the pitch. Simply put, it’s not my profile.”
