Klopp pleased Thiago is proving his doubters wrong with Liverpool form

Thiago Alcantara has been in outstanding form for Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp is perplexed that he ever had any critics.

When asked if in-form Liverpool midfielder

Thiago Alcantara

had won over his critics,

Jurgen Klopp

replied, "Thank God these guys don't make choices."

Many pundits questioned if Thiago would slow down Liverpool's high-octane game and if he could adapt to the

Premier League

's rigors when he arrived from

Bayern Munich

ahead of the 2020-21 season.

But that always appeared to be a shaky opinion at best, and Thiago is shining in a Reds side that is still chasing a stunning quadruple. After dominating

Manchester City

in the FA Cup semi-final last week with his magnificent variety of passing, the Spain international did it again in a 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United in midweek.

There was never any doubt in Klopp's mind about the abilities Thiago would bring to his midfield. "People questioned whether he was the right fit for us. Thank God these guys aren't in charge of making judgments "Klopp made the comments ahead of Liverpool's Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday.

"If a player can calm down a game in a matter of seconds, it's nothing we expected. Thiago was interested in joining us and was familiar with our style of play. He spends a lot of time thinking about football. I try not to focus too much on a single player. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but as I leave this room, I hear that such and such a player has been hurt, so let's continue."

Liverpool

have already won the EFL Cup, are in the FA Cup final, with a Champions League semi-final against Villarreal on the horizon, and are a solitary point behind City in a thrilling title chase. Klopp admits that playing under such pressure isn't always fun for his star-studded team.

"They don't enjoy it all of the time, but they do enjoy it a lot. It's a very difficult scenario, and we have to play almost all of the time. We are ecstatic about our current circumstances. You can't be everywhere at once. We won one competition, which is fantastic, but we still have three more to compete in. We're excited about everything that's coming next."
