Liverpool captain Henderson awaits “very difficult” Villarreal tie

After a win against Benfica, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has delivered his judgment on the Champions League semi-final versus Villarreal.

Jurgen Klopp

 made seven changes to

Liverpool

's starting lineup for the match, bringing in players like Kostas Tsimikas and

Roberto Firmino

, who each scored two goals.

Villarreal

may have been viewed as an easy opponent in the semi-finals – with Man City set to face

Real Madrid

in the other tie – but the Spanish team has already defeated Juventus and Bayern Munich. As he looked ahead to the next level, Henderson acknowledged this, pushing Liverpool to be "100 percent ready" for a "very challenging" semi-final.

He told BT Sport, "No, [they are] definitely [not to be taken lightly]." "They've eliminated Juventus and

Bayern Munich

, two very good teams. As a result, they're an excellent squad in their own right." Both legs will be extremely difficult to bind. So we'll have to be completely prepared, give it our all, and hopefully advance to the final. Villarreal has perhaps the most successful cup-competition manager in football," Klopp said in his post-match press conference.

"It will be challenging, but it is the Champions League semi-finals, so anything less would be completely unacceptable." Liverpool is in their third

Champions League semi-final

in five years this season, but Henderson feels the atmosphere is still special for the players. He went on to say, "It's definitely not taken for granted in the dressing room. Getting into the Champions League quarter-finals is important, and getting into the semi-finals is even bigger."

"Yes, we've competed in a handful in recent years, but it doesn't diminish how unique this competition is. We want to give it our all in every competition." We approach it game by game, giving it everything we've got, and it's worked so far.

"We have a lot of football coming up in the next several months, and we want to give it our all to compete in all competitions." With five games still to play this month, the first leg of the semi-final falls between the Merseyside derby on April 24 and the trip to Newcastle on April 30.
