Poor results against Cameroon helped Algeria - Mahrez

The Manchester City star believes that their recent poor performance against Indomitable lions helped them.

national team star

Riyad Mahrez

claimed that his team's poor record against

Cameroon

motivated them to play on Friday.

On Friday, Cameroon hosted Algeria in World Cup playoff and while performing better during the game, they eventually suffered defeat. Before yesterday's match, the Indomitable Lions had not lost in their last 5 games against the Desert Warriors and had won 3 and drawn 2. However, Islam Slimani scored his team's only goal in the 40th minute to make it halfway to the World Cup, and now Mahrez claims that his team's poor results against Cameroon in Friday's game helped them.

"We don't think it is over. We won with a lot of desire. There is a second game in Blida under different circumstances. Nothing is played, everything remains open.

"I had seen the statistics before the game. I think we were 100% ready. Records are made to be broken. Even the Japoma [Stadium], I heard a lot about it. We love this stadium."

Slimani has been involved in 10 of his team's last 11 goals, scoring 9 goals and assisting 1. He scored his 40th national goal in the 84th game yesterday and Mahrez praised his performance.

"Slimani is a great striker. I think he scored his 40th goal [at Japoma Stadium]…well, I know because he tells me that every day. We're glad he's with us," Man City winger concluded.
