Messi in Argentina despite PSG struggles

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has only met the back of the net twice in Ligue 1 this season but he is still Argentina’s captain and key man.

before their final World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

Many have been questioning Messi’s future at

Paris Saint-Germain

, with

Barcelona

’s door wide open if he wants to come back, as he departed the club in tears last August.

The Argentina international’s first season at PSG is most likely going to end with a title of the Ligue 1, but their elimination from the Champions League and Coupe de France have lowered spirits.

The PSG fans booed Messi in their 3-0 victory over Bordeaux, with the March 13 match coming after their loss at the hands of Real Madrid in Europe.

His contract with PSG is due to expire in one year after the season ends.

Messi was made certain that he will receive a warm welcome from Argentina, having made the trip later than expected following PSG’s 3-0 loss at Monaco, with Mauricio Pochettino saying it was the flu.

The former Barcelona star went with Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes on a private jet before a home game on Friday.

Argentina’s preparations started on Monday before the trio arrived from France. Although his country has got the Qatar 2022 finals qualification, Lionel Scaloni received a boost by Messi’s availability.

Due to a couple of injuries, Argentina’s squad has become weak and Lautaro Martinez, the Inter striker, has been excluded because of a positive Covid-19 test.

As per reports from Roberto Ayala, who is the assistant of Scaloni, Argentina have nothing to worry about when it comes to Messi.

Ayala told La Red earlier this month:

"We see Messi well. He is a boy who is transformed when he comes to the national team. He is very contained by the group and also wants them to see him as part of the group."
