Rigobert Song appointed as Cameroon head coach

The former Cameroon star will now serve as the team's head coach.

Cameroon

football legend Rigobert Song has been named the club's new manager following the sacking of António Conceição.

The indomitable lions of the

Africa Cup of Nations

finished 2021 in third place after losing to

Egypt

in the semi-finals. After failing to win the title at home, Conceição was axed as head coach after two and a half years on the bench.

Cameroon's Minister of Sports has now announced that the appointment of Song has been taken by President Paul Biya.

He said:

“On very high instructions from the President of the Republic, the coach of the men’s national football team, Mr Antonio Conceicao, has been replaced by Rigobert Song.

“The Cameroonian Football Federation is invited to take the necessary measures for a rapid and harmonious implementation of these very high directives.”

With 137 caps, Song has played the most games in Cameroon history. He won the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002. In 2018, he led Cameron for three weeks and is now experiencing his second term.
