Scotland contact FIFA & UEFA over World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine

The national teams of Scotland are scheduled to go against Ukraine in March and April but the Russian invasion of the country has put the games on doubt.

Scotland

is contacting FIFA and UEFA about the World Cup qualifiers his national teams are due to have with

Ukraine

, whereas the Scottish FA (SFA) revealed that the fixtures against

Russia

will be boycotted.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia on Thursday and the conflict escalated on the weekend when the political tensions between the duo were heightened.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) called for action to be taken when they asked international sporting federations to either cancel or relocate any events that had to be taken place in Russia or Belarus.

The 2021-22 Champions League final was then taken away from St Petersburg by UEFA, whereas the Russian Grand Prix was removed from Formula One’s 2022 calendar.

Some international stars like Russian tennis stars Andrey Rubley and Daniil Medvedev have asked for peace and condemned war.

The SFA then followed suit by offering Ukraine support.

"

The Scottish FA President, Rod Petrie, has written to his counterpart at the Ukrainian Association of Football to send a message of support, friendship, and unity,"

a statement from the SFA read on Monday.

"Football is inconsequential amid conflict but we have conveyed the strong sense of solidarity communicated to us by Scotland fans and citizens in recent days.

"We remain in dialogue with UEFA and FIFA regarding our men's FIFA World Cup play-off and women's World Cup qualifier and have offered to support our Ukrainian colleagues' preparations as best we can in these unimaginably difficult circumstances.

"Should the current circumstances continue, we will not sanction the nomination of a team to participate in our scheduled UEFA Regions Cup fixture against Russia, due to be played in August.

"This will remain our position should any other fixtures arise at any level of international football."
