Gremio bus attacked and midfielder Villasanti hospitalized

The team’s bus has been subjected to an attack when it was approaching Internacional's stadium and the match had to be postponed due to this reason.

The midfielder was hit on the heads when stones were being thrown at the bus and he suffered a concussion, bruises as well as a hip injury.

The hospital discharged him on Sunday but he has to be checked by the club doctors for the next few days before getting checked up again.

The incident happened when Gremio were getting to the stadium and the supporters started throwing rocks. The team did not want to play against them in the Gaucho Championship battle and the game was postponed because of the attack.

Romildo Bolzan, the Gremio president, provided an update on the player’s condition after he visited him at the hospital,

He is fine as far as possible. He will recover and soon he will be with us again,"

he said.

The club added:

"He underwent tests and was found to have a head trauma and a brain concussion, but no head fracture. He has bruises on his face and trauma on his hip."

Other players were also injured in the incident, according to Gremio.

We strongly repudiate the criminal acts suffered when the team arrived at the Beira-Rio stadium,"

a statement read.

"Cases like this, which unfortunately have become commonplace in sport, do not represent what football really means."
