Italy's Minister of Justice issues arrest warrant for Robinho

The former Brazilian star has been sentenced to 9 years in prison.

Italy Minister of Justice has issued an international arrest warrant for Robinho, the former star of

Real Madrid

,

Manchester City

and

AC Milan

, after he was convicted of rape.

The minister asked the International Police Agency, Interpol, to take action on the arrest warrant. There is currently no judicial cooperation agreement between South American countries and Europe, so Robinho will only be arrested if he leaves Brazil. A court in Milan in 2017 convicted Robinho and five Brazilian players of gang-raping a woman at a nightclub. The former Milan star was sentenced by the Supreme Court in 2020, but Robinho, 38, denied it.

He has played 100 games for Brazil and for major clubs in Europe. He was named the most expensive British footballer in 2008 after his € 40 million move from Real Madrid to Manchester City. However, he failed to shine at City and moved to Milan the following year for € 22 million before joining his hometown team Santos on loan.

He spent four years at the San Siro, during which time he committed a crime and then in 2015 moved to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League. He spent one season in China and joined Atletico Mineiro in Brazil in 2016. He went on to join Sivasspor and Istanbul Basaksehir, but did not appear on the football field after leaving Turkey in 2020.
