Al Ahly's Soliman lauds teammates for their hard-won Monterrey clash

Walid Soliman, an Al Ahly seasoned striker, praised his teammates for defeating CF Monterrey in the Club World Cup despite the obstacles.

Al Ahly came into the match with a depleted squad, as several of their important players are away on international duty for the

Africa Cup of Nations

, while others are injured.

This, combined with Al Ahly's 100 percent losing record versus Monterrey, put the Reds as the underdogs on the pitch looking in for the encounter.

Despite the odds being piled against them, the Egyptian club were able to win courtesy of a

Mohamed Hany

strike and Pitso Mosimane's coaching masterpiece.

According to Soliman, these are the sorts of circumstances in which the team's positive mentality is vital, and the players were up for the challenge.

“Praise be to God for the victory, and I thank Al Ahly’s men who always step-up in difficult times,” Soliman told Abu Dhabi Sports TV.

“We’re always trying to please Al Ahly fans and we promise them the best.

“It doesn’t matter for Al Ahly who’s playing, we always fight to raise the club’s flag high,” he concluded.

Al Ahly will now meet

Palmeiras

in the semi-final on February 8, the same side they defeated in the previous edition's third-place playoff.
