Newcastle make a £33.5 m offer for Lyon's Guimaraes

The Magpies are trying to bring the Brazilian midfielder before the January transfer window closes.

Newcastle

have offered £33.5 million ($45m) for acquiring the services of

Lyon

midfielder

Bruno Guimaraes

, as per reports from

Goal

.

The Premier League side are attempting to recruit a significant player under their new Saudi owners' support, with more than £30m ($41m) spent for penning with Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

More are expected to join St James' Park before the winder window closes as Eddi Howe aims to build a team that can avoid relegation, and Guimaraes is their next target.

The player has also been linked with a move to Arsenal in the last few weeks. Goal reports that the Magpies are waiting for Lyon to respond; however, it is not obvious whether the Brazilian is willing to make a move to Tyneside.

On January 24, Guimaraes raised the speculations on a move away from the Ligue 1 side as he said that his talent is being stifled there.

"

In France, there are moments where we play like robots; nobody tries to dribble, to find a pass, for example,"

 he told

Globo Esporte

.

"That irritates me sometimes, it is a bit frustrating. I think that those who have talent should profit from that, try to dribble, try to link moves. If you do that, your game will be complete."

He added:

"My objective at Lyon is to be champion… We are doing well in the Europa League, a competition that we have begun well in. Ligue 1 is very difficult."

Newcastle also confirmed that

Sevilla

's Diego Carlos is their other target, and they approached them.

However, the two sides are not on the same page when it comes to the valuation of the player, and Sevilla are not willing to sell their prized asset in the middle of the season.

Moreover, Newcastle are also eager to pen with Robin Gosens, but he would rather stay in Italy and make a move to Inter.

Jesse Lingard is their other target, as well as Tottenham's Dele Alli.
