Newcastle make a bid for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos

The Magpies are awaiting response after making an offer for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

Newcastle

signed striker Chris Wood from Burnley on a £25m deal and now their top priority is signing a center-back.

The Magpies were initially interested in Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, however, a transfer is now unlikely since the Frenchman sustained an injury during Ligue 1 clash with Nantes.

Newcastle have now focused their interest on

Sevilla

defender

Diego Carlos

, who has made 27 appearances for the La Liga side this season.

The Brazilian defender has a contract with Sevilla until the end of the 2023-24 season.

The Magpies’ need to strengthen their defense is unquestionable, as Eddie Howe's side has conceded 42 goals in just 19 Premier League matches this season.

Having collected only 11 points out of 19 domestic games, Newcastle are sitting 19

th

in the Premier League table.
