Tottenham Hotspur eye Henderson as Lloris' long-term replacement

According to reports, Tottenham have targeted Dean Henderson as a possible long-term replacement to Hugo Lloris.

The France international has been in excellent shape this season, but he is reaching the conclusion of his career at the age of 35.

Lloris' deal with Tottenham Hotspur expires next summer, and he has failed to reach an agreement with the club he has represented since 2012.

The ex-Lyon goalie is expected to return to

Ligue 1

at the end of the season.

Even if he signs a new one-year contract with the Spurs, he will need to be supplanted shortly.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the north London club has pinpointed Henderson as a goalkeeper worthy of taking over.

The England international is becoming more dissatisfied with his position in Manchester United's team.

Henderson was United's No. 1 at the end of last season, but he has struggled to find game time this season.

David de Gea

has been a surprising silver lining for the Red Devils throughout a dismal first half of the season.

Henderson became infected with Covid-19 during the preseason and was unable to workout effectively for almost a month.

He has been struggling to reclaim his starting berth since then and has played only two games in 2021/22.

Henderson is desperate to play first-team football, but according to the abovementioned source, Ralf Rangnick has determined that he will not be permitted to depart on loan in January.

Ajax had inquired about his availability for the second half of the season, but United preferred to keep him as De Gea's reserve.

While the club would not allow a transfer during the winter window, they may have to make a significant choice next summer.

United regard the 24-year-old as De Gea's long-term replacement, but Henderson is restless and may seek a transfer to Spurs if Lloris goes.

That would put Manchester United in a tricky situation, but with the

2022 World Cup

approaching, their current No.2 is anxious for more serious involvement.
