Everton vs Burnley postponed due to Covid-19

Everton vs Burnley has been called off because of the coronavirus rise at the Merseyside club.

Everton

have asked to postpone the match on Thursday but their initial request was rejected notwithstanding

Rafael Benitez

revealing that he had nine outfield players fit.

However, Everton’s statement on Friday read:

"Our Premier League fixture at Burnley on Boxing Day has been postponed due to the number of COVID cases and injuries in our squad."

Games postponed on Boxing Day

  • Liverpool vs Leeds - Sunday , December 26

  • Wolves vs Watford - Sunday ,  December 26

Burnley

vs Everton - Sunday ,  December 26

After the managers asked for clarification when some matches were called off and some were not, the

Premier League

released a guideline to announce the protocols for the fixture postponement.

When requesting for postponement the clubs should provide the following information:

·         Details of the staff members and players who have tested positive, as well as their vaccination status

  • Players and staff that are out of action due to injury and illness

  • Players who are available, including 'appropriately experienced' U21 players

  • The unavailable players’ medical information, which will be checked by the medical advisers of the Premier League

Following that, the Premier League will check the factors when they want to grant the request:

  • The influence of the Covid infections, injuries, illness and isolation on the team and the first-team number and 'appropriately experienced' U21 players available

  • Should a club not have 13 outfield players available and a goalkeeper, the game will be postponed

  • The Covid-19 outbreak status at the club with the number and source infections and the match’s proximity

  • Club’s ability to prepare its players safely

  • Medical advice on if there is a great risk to players and staff’s health and safety by the match

  • The UK Health Securities Agency’s advice as well as other public bodies

  • Other circumstances that are exceptional
