UEFA to start promoting player vaccination

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin urges players to get vaccinated.

The Premier League released vaccination data in October, indicating that only 68 percent of the players have been fully vaccinated.

With the resurgence of the coronavirus in Europe, UEFA president

Aleksander Ceferin

has made it priority to promote vaccination, in order to persuade those who have yet to decide on getting the COVID-19 shots.

"We've just launched a video promoting vaccination, it will go out tomorrow, I think,"

Ceferin said at a press conference.

"We should promote the vaccine and we will. We don't have the power to force anyone to be vaccinated, but the promotion starts today and in my humble opinion the video is good because only doctors talk in it.

"They explain why the vaccine is so important. They are experts saying the vaccine is good because of this, this and this, and that side effects are very rare. We will start promoting the vaccine now."

He added:

"For me, I believe in science. I got vaccinated, and I think the players should get vaccinated as soon as possible, but I still believe for now it's a personal choice.

"People aren't stupid. If you explain in a nice way, not judging them, explain why it's good.

"All figures show vaccinated people are less likely to get infected and all vaccinated people are less likely to have strong effects of COVID if they are infected.

"Sooner or later, if not all, the vast majority will understand it."
