Haller beats Haaland’s record in the Champions League

The Ivory Coast international was not impressive at West Ham but he proved otherwise when playing for Ajax in the Champions League this season.

Sebastien Haller

broke

Erling Haaland

’s record in the

Champions League

when he helped

Ajax

take the lead against

Sporting CP

on Tuesday, leveling another feat that was only achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 27-year-old, who made a move to West Ham in January, had a hard time finding the back of the net during the 18 months with the club. However, his Champions League performances were stellar, with the penalty he converted on Tuesday’s clash being his 10th goal this season in the group stage.

He became the quickest player to reach double figures in a Champions League career in six games and the Norway international had that record before him, but he did so in seven games.

Cristiano Ronaldo

was already a Champions League veteran as he netted in all six group-stage matches of the 2017-18 season with Real Madrid. Haller is the second player to have done that.
