Paolo Maldini wins Manager of the Year award

AC Milan technical director has won an award as Manager of the Year for his work to revitalize Milan both on and off the pitch.

The former

AC Milan

defender was honored today with the

Manlio Scopigno prize

for his ability to rehabilitate a club that had been in disarray and leaking money.

The committee that chose

Maldini

for the honor issued a statement explaining why they picked the former Italy icon.

“After achieving history on the field with Milan and Italy, he is revealing himself to be a great director too.

“As a technical director of the Rossoneri, he has been able to combine excellent sporting results with a smart and long-term vision for economic development.

“He has been a fundamental figure to revitalize Milan and write a new chapter in an infinite story.”

Under Maldini's leadership, Milan returned to the Champions League after a seven-year absence and are now one point adrift of

Napoli

at the top of the
