Official: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sacked by Manchester United

The club parted ways with the Norwegian manager after their 4-1 defeat against Watford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s journey at Manchester United is finally over. The club confirmed they have sacked the Norwegian boss on Sunday.

“Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager,”

Man United’s official

statement

reads.

“Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.”

Rumours around Man United’s intention to sack Ole have been around since the Red Devils’ crushing defeat against Liverpool earlier this month. The club reportedly started to search for a new boss, while Solskjaer’s catastrophic run of results left them with no choice but to accelerate his sacking.

Solskjaer’s assistant Michael Carrick will take charge at Old Trafford as interim coach.

“Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.”

Several coaches are

linked

with the managerial job at Manchester United. Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino, and Erik ten Hag are all considered for the role, with Zidane being the main candidate.

Before that, Man United must play a crucial Champions League match against

Villarreal

on Tuesday. It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will have a new manager by the time they face Chelsea in their next league game four days later.
