Match Report: Mbappe was enough for PSG’s 4-2 victory over Brest

Lionel Messi and Neymar were not involved in Paris Saint-Germain’s Friday clash, but PSG continued their great start to the league with their third consecutive victory anyways.

PSG extended their perfect start

to their Ligue 1 campaign with a third consecutive win, which came at Brest.

Ander Herrera opened the scoring in the 23rd-minute before Kylian Mbappe doubled their lead. However, Keylor Navas' error handed Brest a reprieve before half-time.

Idrissa Gueye's long-range strike seemed to have settled the contest in the 73rd-minute. However, Brest’s Mounie made it 3-2 with five minutes to go. It was PSG’s Argentine superstar, Angel Di Maria, who settled the scoreboard with the fourth goal in the 90th-minute.

Mbappe's six attempts across the opening

two Ligue 1 games failed to yield reward before he finally ended the drought during the Parisians away victory over Brest.

Despite the victory, the former Tottenham boss simply has to get things sorted at his defense line as five goals conceded in three games is a huge warning sign.

The Parisians backline showed a poor performance against Brest. Presnel Kimpembe delivered a performance hardly representative of his experience, while Thilo Kehrer looked out of his depth in the middle.

Paris’ summer signing, Gianluigi Donnarumma,

was on the bench on Friday, and his hopes of immediately usurping Kaylor Navas as the first choice may have been boosted as the Costarican showed an error-prone performance against Brest.

PSG will next travel to face Reims

before the international break. Brest faces Strasbourg in their next outing.
