Fabinho: We don’t pay attention to our rivals, they are always strong

The Liverpool star insists his side are not concerned about their rivals’ activity in the transfer market.

Manchester City broke the British transfer record by signing

Jack Grealish

on a £100million deal from Aston Villa this week. The reigning champions are also heavily linked with

a summer move for Harry Kane

, which would further strengthen their squad ahead of the next season. Despite the dazzling rush of the transfer window,

Fabinho

believes Liverpool will keep their focus on improving their performances.

“This Liverpool squad has already won the Premier League, the Champions League… important trophies,”

the Brazilian said.

“We have already shown what we are capable of.

“We don’t pay attention to the other teams. City are the Premier League champions and Chelsea the Champions League champions. The English teams are always strong and will always fight for trophies. This year won’t be different.”

Manchester City are not the only club that have invested in big-money transfers this summer. Manchester United added Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their ranks, while Chelsea are linked with a move for Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.

“We will be strong and they will be strong as well. Hopefully we will be a bit stronger.

“We don’t pay too much attention to the other teams, we just focus on us and working hard to be in the best way possible.”

Liverpool are spending a relatively quiet transfer window this summer, with

Ibrahima Konate

being the main addition to the Reds’ squad ahead of the next season. The Reds also saw Gini Wijnaldum leave the club on a free transfer to PSG last month.

Asked about the departure of his Dutch teammate, Fabinho responded:

“Gini was a really good friend of mine. Personally, I will miss him a lot. And the team will miss him because he played in all the games, was never injured and was a really good player. He was a leader.

“Gini was a really special player for this club. For me personally, he helped me a lot since I arrived at the club. Now he is at another team and I wish him all the best at PSG.

“But our squad has already shown we have good players to replace him. I think the midfield is the part of the team where we have more players – we have Hendo [Jordan Henderson], me, Thiago [Alcantara], Curtis [Jones], Millie [James Milner], Naby Keita, a lot of players who can play in this position.

“I’m not worried about it (Wijnaldum leaving). Of course, we will miss Gini for the person he is as well, but we have the quality in this group to replace him.”

Liverpool will face

Athletic Bilbao

in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.
