Real Madrid thank Raphael Varane for his services

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid over the signing of Raphael Varane.

The two clubs have reached an agreement of £41 million for the defender and he is expected to complete his transfer after a medical.

The former Lens defender made 360 appearances for

Real Madrid

since joining them in 2011, but he decided to end his successful career in the Spanish capital.

Madrid confirmed the news in a statement on the

club’s official website

, thanking Varane for the professionalism the Frenchman showed during his time at Santiago Bernabeu.

“Our club thank you for your professionalism and exemplary behavior during the ten seasons in which you have defended our shirt, with which you have won 18 titles: 4 Champions League, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 3 Leagues, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups.”

The statement read

“Real Madrid want to show all their affection to Raphael Varane and his family and wishes him good luck in this new stage of his professional career.”

Varane is the second center-back to part ways with Real Madrid this summer following the departure of

Sergio Ramos

However, they have signed

David Alaba

on a free transfer from

Bayern Munich

, but they have to sign another center-back if they want to compete for the titles.
