The former Liverpool boss is expected to sign a contract with the Toffees as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.
Carlo Ancelotti left
Evertonto join Real Madrid earlier this month. The Toffees have been searching for a new coach since the start of June and they are reportedly on the verge of appointing
Rafael Benitez
as their new manager.
According to
Sky Sports
, the Spaniard is set to sign a contract at Goodison Park in the next few days, with Everton hoping to announce the deal next week. Benitez is set to join Everton 11 years after he left their city rivals Liverpool. The Spanish manager spent six years at Anfield from 2004 to 2010, winning the Champions League with the Reds.
The Toffees were considering Nuno Espirito Santo and David Moyes as other options for the managerial job. However, Nuno is in talks with Tottenham and Moyes has agreed to a new three-year contract at the London Stadium. The potential signing of Benitez has already angered a section of Everton's fan base due to the Spaniard’s Liverpool links.
