Dembele wants to stay at Barcelona amid transfer links

The French winger is keen to sign a contract extension with the Blaugrana in the summer.

Having left Borussia Dortmund with a €135m deal,

Ousmane Dembele

joined

Barcelona

in 2017. Despite displaying signs of his best form, the French winger has failed to live up to expectations at Camp Nou. However, his performances under Ronald Koeman last season showed great improvement, while he remained away from injuries for most of the campaign.

According to

Mundo Deportivo

, Dembele is interested in extending his contract with Barcelona despite having suitors from the Premier League. The 24-year-old, who got injured in

France

’s Euro 2020 match against Hungary, is keen to continue his career at Camp Nou as he enters the final year of his contract. The Blaugrana president

Juan Laporta

showed support for the player in a press conference last week.

“I am a big fan of Dembélé. He was the only player that won important games for Barca, apart from Messi.”

Laporta said.

He added:

“If the club manages him, Dembélé could become something really special.”

Barcelona are dealing with financial problems as they have been hit hard by the pandemic’s economic effects. It remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants can afford to give the Frenchman a new deal ahead of the next season.
