Dennis Aogo accuses Lehmann of racial abuse
The former shot-stopper apologized to his fellow countryman after racially abusing him with a message.

has been accused of racial abuse after calling
Dennis Aogo
“token black guy” in a
message.
The former left-back Aogo called it quits last year and started working as a pundit for Sky Germany. He was in the studio when Manchester City was going against PSG in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old revealed the message he received from Lehmann regarding his skin color.
Aogo took the matter into his
story and posted a screenshot, which read:
"Is Dennis actually your token black guy?"
The German tagged his countryman in the post, saying:
"WOW, are you serious? This message wasn't supposed to go to me I guess."
took action and pronounced that the 51-year-old will not be a member of the supervisory board any longer.
President Werner Gegenbauer said:
"Such statements in no way correspond to the values that Hertha BSC stands for and actively advocates. Hertha BSC distances itself from any form of racism."
Lehmann apologized to Aogo privately and tried to clarify his message when he was interviewed by
BILD
on Wednesday.
"
I have already spoken to Dennis on the phone and asked him to forgive me if my statement came across as disrespectful,"
he said.
"It was not meant that way at all, but in a positive way. As a Sky expert, he is knowledgeable and very strong in his appearance. And therefore also increases the quota.
"That's what I meant to say but it was unfortunate of me to put it. Since the WhatsApp went out from my phone, I take responsibility for it. It was a private message."
Lehmann featured for Schalke, Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Stuttgart during his 24 years as a goalkeeper, being one of the top keepers in his country. He contributed to seven trophies and played in 61 games for his country.
