's star Matthias Ginter has claimed that his club's absence from the Champions League could lead to his departure.

The 2014 World Cup winner is looking to make progress, and it seems that placing his club seventh in the table is not what he is looking for in football.

The 27-year-old German talented midfielder wants to play at the highest level of football, and his team's absence from the Champions League could lead to him leaving the team next summer.

He told

Sky Deutschland:

"Basically everyone wants to play in Europe.

"But there are a few other criteria that play a role. That's why we'll see what happens with the coaching team.

"There have been no talks about it yet. I'm very, very open to staying here."

Ginter's contract with Monchengladbach expires in the summer of 2022 and he is close to the final 12 months of the contract.
