Osaka’s Vietnamese goalkeeper sends message to Japanese fans

Formally introduced Sunday to Cerezo Osaka fans, Dang Van Lam joined the Japanese club during the halftime break of a J1 League match between Osaka and Urawa Reds.

Alongside Australian forward, Adam Taggart, the Vietnamese was introduced to the fans wearing the number 1 jersey, saying: "Hello everyone, I’m Dang Van Lam, a goalkeeper from Vietnam. I’m really happy and excited to be here for the first time. I will train really hard to play well and contribute to the club.”

Currently fourth in the J1 League table, Osaka will compete in AFC Champions League as well.

To earn the number 1 place, the 28-year-old will have to compete against Kim Jin-Hyeon and Kenya Matsui.

Growing in Russia, Lam spent his youth years at Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow before returning to his motherland with the Hoang Anh Gia Lai club.

He will be the fourth Vietnamese to play for a Japanese club. However, considering that Le Cong Vinh, Nguyen Tuan Anh, and Nguyen Cong Phuong all played for J2 League clubs, Lam will be the first Vietnamese to play for a J1 League team.
