Voetbal24, Napoli do not want to risk losing him on a free transfer and therefore are prepared to cash in on him in the coming months as their finances have taken a major hit during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mertens joined Napoli in 2013 and became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer last year as he was able to beat Marek Hamsik’s record.
The 33-year-old forward has been able to score eight goals and provide seven assists through 21 Serie A appearances this season.
He is also able to play out wide or through the middle and his combination of quality and experience makes him an in-demand player as
Arsenal,
Chelsea, and
Tottenhamhave all shown interest in the 33-year-old and want to bring him in the Premier League, according to
Daily Express.
Chelsea were linked with Mertens last summer but Frank Lampard was not able to sign him and although Thomas Tuchel is now in charge, the club are still interested in the Napoli forward.
Tottenham might lose Harry Kane and Gareth Bale this summer and the Belgian could be a replacement.
Arsenal are also interested in Mertens as Mikel Arteta is trying to get the club in the top four again.
