Stones hopeful of England recall

The City defender hopes to return to the England national team.

Manchester City

defender John Stones has expressed hope that his good performance in recent months will be noticed by the

England

manager.

The English defender looked set to leave Manchester City last season, but he was able to secure his place in the team by forming a great pair with Ruben Dias in City's defense. Now Stones has expressed hope that this good performance will be noticed by English coach Gareth Southgate and he will return to the Three Lions.

“It's a massive honour for me (playing for England) and being out of the [recent] squads has been difficult for me,”

Stones said.

“It's been a motivation for me and I've worked hard to get back into the team here and the England call up - if it comes - is progress from what I've done for City.”

Manchester City boss Guardiola has also backed the Stones, claiming he deserves to return to the England national team. Pep added:

"He deserves it. Of course Gareth Southgate knows better than me what he needs but I will be delighted and happy if John comes back in the national team."
