Josep Maria Bartomeu released provisionally after his Monday arrest
The ex-Blaugrana president was given the permission to leave after giving his testimony on Tuesday amid his Monday arrest.
Former
Barcelonapresident, Josep Maria Bartomeu, who has been the talk of
Barcelona newssince his arrest on Monday, spent a night in the Travessera de Les Corts police station jail before being released on Tuesday morning, reports
El Mundo Deportivo.
According to
Marca, after testifying in front of Judge Alejandra Gil, both Bartomeu and his adviser, Jaume Masferrer, were released provisionally as the investigations continue with their case.
Alongside Bartomeu and Masferrer, others including Barcelona’s CEO, Óscar Grau, and head of legal services, Román Gómez Punti, were also arrested by Catalonia’s policemen.
This was followed by a statement from the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), which read:
“The court of instruction 13 of Barcelona, within a case opened in May 2020 for crimes of unfair administration and corruption in business, has taken a statement today from the former directors of FC Barcelona, Josep M. Bartomeu and Jaume Masferrer, as investigated.”
“The two investigated, who today have gone to court, have availed themselves of their right not to testify and the magistrate has agreed to provisional release them. The case, of which the summary secrecy has been lifted, is still open.”
reports that the mentioned board members were arrested for unfair administration, corruption between individuals, and money laundering, which included money transfers from the club’s official accounts to a third party company called I3 Ventures.
This case, which related to
‘Barçagate’
, revealed suspicious payments of six times higher than the market value of the services, leading the Mossos police to investigate the dubious events, as reported by
El Mundoback in September.
