Jonathan Pitroipa announces retirement on Instagram

has decided to end his professional football career because of personal reasons, according to

The highlight of his career was when he won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament award as he was able to score a number of decisive goals at the tournament to help his side finish as runner-up.

He left

Paris FC

in January and since then he has been without a club and now via social media he has shared his decision to end his playing career.

“All good things have an end and I make no exception,” Pitroipa posted on Instagram.

“I would like here by this message announce to all my fans that for personal reasons I decided to end my professional career it is with a lot of reflection and great emotion that I announce it to you.”

Pitroipa started his professional career in his country at Planete Champion and it was before he moved to Europe and joined SC Freiburg in 2004 where he was able to score 16 goals in 75 appearances.

He then moved to Hamburger SV on a free transfer after four years where he played 97 games and scored six goals during his three-year stay.

His next team was Rennes where he made 91 appearances before leaving France to join Al Jazira Club.

His last club was Paris FC, but before that, he also played for Al-Nasr and Royal Antwerp.

He also made 82 appearances for his national team and scored 19 goals.
