Willock signs a loan deal with Newcastle

The England Under-21 international has pushed for minutes in the past few weeks and will now play for Newcastle for the remainder of the season.

Joe Willock

has signed a loan deal with

Newcastle

away from

Arsenal

for the rest of the 2020-21 campaign. The 21-year-old has followed Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Shkodran Mustafi through the exit door on the last day of the January transfer window.

With an opportunity presented to him to play regularly in the

Premier League

, Willock was keen on signing the deal. The midfielder, who has been with Arsenal from the age of four, has played in 17 matches and met the target three times in all competitions. This season, he was substituted twice for a short time.

"

I'm delighted to bring Joe to Newcastle until the end of the season. He is a very exciting and talented young player who can get up and down the pitch and can score a goal from midfield,

" coach Steve Bruce said.

"

He has made a very decent impact at Arsenal after coming through the ranks and to make nearly 80 appearances for the club by the age of 21 says much about his development, ability and character.

"He is very keen to come here and test himself and he'll be a great addition to the squad."

Counting Willock, six players have departed Arsenal in January, with

Schalke

loaning Sead Kolasinac’s services, and William moving to

Nice

on a loan deal. Mesut Ozil, Sokratis, and Mustafi, on the other hand, have left the Gunners on free transfers.

Among the arrivals were loanees Martin Odegaard from

Real Madrid

and shot-stopper Mat Ryan from

Brighton

.

Newcastle have made one signing, which would be Willock, in the January transfer window, while Galatasaray signed away right-back DeAndre Yedlin on the transfer deadline and Ronaldo Aarons has also departed to join Huddersfield earlier.
