Schalke receive immediate funding from Tönnies subsidiary

Almost three weeks after FC Schalke 04's board barred the club from accepting finding from disgraced former president Clemens Tönnies, the organization found another way to ensure cash injection.

Schalke

now have

€6

million to use in the final days of the transfer window.

On January 6, the Gelsenkirchen advisory board denied emergency aid from

Clemens Tönnies

. Nineteen days later, the S04 bosses seem to have found a veiled way to obtain the money.

Club executives announced two new sponsorship deals on Tuesday, which involved two companies.

Gelsenkirchen-based cleaning and security service group Stölting and sausage producer Böklunder have agreed upon extensions to the current arrangements with Schalke. These two new deals add an extra €6 million for the club's immediate use.

The second company is a subsidiary of Tönnies's meatpacking company. Josef Schnusenberg, Tonnies's current tax advisor, sits as a board member. Most German media sources consider these deals as covered aid from the 64-year-old former chairmen, which is offered as a relatively temporary without any conditions.

Alexander Jobst, a board member, did not attempt to conceal the matter. He reminded the board that any amount not tied to  "any additional obligations or preconditions” must be subject to immediate approval.

Disturbed cash can now be used for Schalke in the transfer market.
