midfielder Mario Gotze regrets not spending more time with Jürgen Klopp.

The Liverpool manager brought Gotze to Dortmund first-teams, and the German midfielder scored 31 goals in three seasons for the team, winning the Bundesliga twice. He then left Dortmund for rival Bayern Munich to work with Pep Guardiola. Gotze did not have good days at Bayern Munich and eventually returned to Dortmund and now regrets not playing longer under Klopp.

“I see [Klopp] as one of the most important people in my life. There is a relationship of trust between us.

“With Guardiola, the relationship was more business-like.

“I was just 21 when I went from Dortmund to Bayern. That of course also gave a storm of publicity.

“In retrospect I might have stayed longer with Klopp, but it was certainly not a mistake to go to Bayern. I wanted to challenge myself, get to know Pep’s philosophy.”
