Pathetic performance by Fred, insists former striker

Michael Owen believes that Fred's performance against PSG was pathetic after he was sent off in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes

is the star of

Manchester United

without a doubt but there is one man in the team which is considered the engine of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. Fred didn’t start the season very well but right now he is one of the best players in the squad.

He was being played by Parades in the game against PSG. Fred was close to getting sent off a couple of times until his second-half challenge on Ander Herrera which cost him the second yellow card. Michael Owen says that if Fred was his player, he would never play him again and his performance was pathetic.

"Mistakes all round really,"

the ex-United striker told BT Sport .

"It [the clash with Paredes] was a red card. You’re a grown man, you don’t need to do a petulant thing like that to put your team at risk.

"If I was a manager, and one of my players did that, he would never play for me again. It’s pathetic. Overall you have to blame Fred but also Solskjaer.

"The manager has to protect him and the team in that situation so they’re both to blame."
