Villas-Boas amazed by Pape Gueye: 'Great future ahead of him'

Pape Gueye's choice to pick Marseille over Watford looks like a decent one for both player and the French club

In late spring, everyone was expecting to see Gueye in

Watford'

s squad for the next season, or so they thought.

Gueye clarified, through L'Equipe, he wasn't a Watford player yet, in any event not formally, prior to changing his mind completely which surprised many Hornet and Olympians fans.

Furthermore, following his transition to Marseille eventually, the 21-year-old is currently playing in the

Champions League

instead of the Championship – regardless of

Olympique de Marseille

's downfall in the tournament with the record-breaking spell of 13 consecutive UCL routs.

However, Watford wasn't the only team who desired to hire the Frenchman,

Arsenal

and

Liverpool

also made their move on Gueye but in the end, he chose the southern French club.

And whilst Gueye is finding his way around Marseille's midfield, with only four games up until this point, L'OM head manager Andre Villas-Boas is excited to have the energetic 21-year-old in his squad:

“He is an extraordinary player. I have great confidence in him for the future,” says ‘AVB’, who believes Gueye could replace star midfielder Boubacar Kamara at the Stade Velodrome one day.

“If ever there are big European clubs that position themselves for Bouba – that can open the door to Pape. I trust him. He is extraordinary in training.”
