Van Basten: Van de Beek shouldn’t have joined Man Utd

Former Netherland International has spoken about Donny van de Beek’s transfer to Manchester United and the lack of game time for the Dutchman in his new club.

Leaving

Ajax

with a €44m deal in the summer transfer window,

Donny van de Beek

joined

Manchester United

with the ambition to play at the Premier League. But since his arrival at the start of the season, the 32-year-old is yet to start a game for the Red Devils. In the team’s Saturday clash against

Chelsea

which ended in a 0-0 draw, Van de Beek was an unused sub and his game time in Man United remained at the number of 60 minutes which led many to believe that the Dutch midfielder doesn’t have a place in Solskjaer’s squad. In a recent interview with Ziggo Sport, former Milan star Marco van Basten has spoken about Van de Beek’s transfer to Premier League and how this decision will affect his career as a young athlete.

"Donny should not have gone to Manchester United,

"When you are a good player you want to play every week.

"It is really bad for a player like Donny to play only six or seven games this year. That is shocking for your match rhythm.

"I know he is earning loads and loads more than he used to.

"But as a top player you have to be critical and look at the chances of playing when you sign for a new club.

"Donny should have waited for better prospects and signed for another club."

Solskjaer has preferred to use Fred and McTominay in the midfield pivot behind Bruno Fernandes in the recent games against

PSG

and

Newcastle

. It remains to be seen if Manchester United boss would finally put Van de Beek in the team’s starting eleven in their next games against RB Leipzig and Arsenal or the Dutch midfielder will again be used as a bench- sitter for his new club.
