Harsh Penalties Await Saudi Football Stars

The Saudi Football Federation has penalized Aymeric Laporte, Mohamed Karim Al-Baqawi, and Marcelo Gaiardo with suspensions and financial fines.

The Discipline and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Federation announced a series of disciplinary decisions on Sunday. As part of these decisions, the committee imposed penalties on several players and coaches in the Saudi league.

Spanish star Aymeric Laporte, who plays for Al-Nassr, has been suspended for two matches, including an automatic suspension due to a direct red card. This suspension applies to all official matches in which he is eligible to participate. Additionally, he has been fined 20,000 Saudi riyals by the Saudi Football Federation for his unsportsmanlike behavior towards a player from Al-Riyadh, according to the referee’s report.

Following the same principle, the committee penalized Al-Fayha player Mohamed Karim Al-Baqawi with a four-match suspension, including an automatic suspension due to a direct red card. He was also fined 40,000 Saudi riyals for his aggressive behavior towards the match referee during a game against Al-Taawoun, as per the referee’s report.

Furthermore, the committee required Al-Ittihad coach Marcelo Gaiardo to pay a fine of 45,000 Saudi riyals for his absence from the press conference after the match against Damac. The committee emphasized that there is ongoing monitoring of Ramadan Sobhi’s legal situation.
