Martial Receives Apology from Coach Amid Evaluation of Performance

French forward Anthony Martial experienced an unforgettable moment in Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United, where he failed to make an impact and was substituted in the 62nd minute.

Even coach Erik ten Hag was visibly frustrated, seen shouting at Martial. However, the Dutch manager has now come out to defend his player despite severe criticism, stating that the entire team is earnestly working on improving their performance after a challenging start to the 2023-24 season.

Speaking to the press ahead of the midweek clash with Chelsea, the Red Devils' coach stated, "Anthony Martial played brilliantly against Everton. I don't think it's fair to focus on one player. In the week before, we played brilliantly; everyone is giving their best, there's unity as a team."

The 28-year-old player has endured a lackluster season so far, managing to score only twice in 18 club appearances. With the declining performances of both Marcus Rashford and Martial, Ten Hag's team has experienced significant fluctuations, teetering on the brink of elimination from the UEFA Champions League and currently sitting seventh in the league, trailing leaders Arsenal by 12 points.

Manchester United faces a packed December schedule. Following the Chelsea match, Ten Hag's team will prepare for a clash against Bournemouth before a crucial Champions League group stage encounter with Bayern Munich. Subsequent important domestic matches against Liverpool and West Ham precede the Christmas period and could be pivotal in determining whether United secures a top-four position in the Premier League.
