head coach on October 20, 2022, and will serve in that position through June 20, 2024. He replaced Gerardo Seoane.

There are rumors that Real Madrid intend to choose Alonso as their new coach next season.

But Simon Rolfes, the director of Bayer Leverkusen, said that Alonso's focus is on Leverkusen.

“We got his commitment a few weeks ago, when he extended his contract”

he said.

“Xabi doesn’t have to say anything. He has extended his contract. He’s fully focused here.”

From their six Bundesliga games, Leverkusen collected 16 points, placing them top of the standings.
