Feyenoord earn slender first-leg advantages over Roma respectively in the Europa League quarter-finals

Dutch side

Feyenoord

snatched a valuable victory from its Italian guest

Roma

1-0, in the first leg of the

European League

quarter-finals.

The only goal of the match was scored by

Mats Wieffer

after a pass from Moroccan international

Osama El Idrissi

in the 53rd minute.

The match saw Roma captain

Lorenzo Pellegrini

miss a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

The two teams had faced each other in the final of the first edition of the Conference League competition, which Roma won 1-0.

Roma coach Jose Mourinho resorted to caution in his squad as he pushed striker Tammy Abraham alone in the lead.

Roma suffered a moral blow with the injury to its Argentine star

Paulo Dybala

and his exit in the 25th minute

Stephan El Shaarawy

entered instead.

Feyenoord translated its dominance into a wonderful goal in the 53rd minute after a pass from Al-Idrisi followed by Fever with a shot from outside the area, which hit the ground and hit goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Rome lost after 3 minutes thanks to the efforts of Abraham who suffered a shoulder injury, and Andrea Belotti who entered instead.

Dutch substitute Jorginho Wijnaldum missed the equalizing opportunity after finding himself alone 20 meters away, and hit a powerful ball that passed by the left post in the 87th minute.
