Mourinho silenced Roma fans after racist chants towards former player Stankovic

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho asked their fans to stop directing racist chants at Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic during a Serie A game on Sunday.

AS Roma

beat Sampdoria with three goals in Serie A on Sunday. Georginio Wijnaldum, Paulo Dybala, and Stephan El Shaarawy all scored for Roma.

During the game, Roma fans directed racist chants at Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic, who played for Lazio during his career. This incident resulted in Mourinho’s reaction. Roma's boss walked off his bench and waved to the fans to stop the chants directed at his former player. Later, the Portuguese coach held up a thumb to thank fans for their co-operation.

Mourinho worked with Stankovic during his time as

Inter

 coach from 2008 to 2010.

"I did it for a great man and a great friend. He has kids and a family and it's not pretty. Our fans are great, but my friends aren't being touched,"

Mourinho said when speaking to reporters after the game.

Mourinho’s side is in fifth place in the table with 50 points after 28 matches. Roma is behind Inter due to goal difference. They will face Torino in a Serie A clash on Saturday. Roma also is set to face Feyenoord in the Europa League quarter-finals stage.
