Klopp doesn't think Liverpool could've even won against 10-men City

Pep Guardiola's side had an easy victory against Liverpool on a exciting day in Manchester

Jurgen Klopp claims his Liverpool team would have probably lost to

Manchester City

even if they had played with 10 players.

Although Rodri committed a foul on Cody Gakpo in the first half which could have led to a second yellow card, Manchester City continued to dominate the game, defeating Liverpool 4-1 and securing their fourth consecutive league win.

The game started with

Liverpool

taking the lead through Mohamed Salah's goal, but City responded with goals from Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Jack Grealish to turn the match around.

Klopp, however, does not consider Rodri avoiding a red card to be a significant turning point in the match.

"Could [Rodri] have got a second yellow? Yes, probably, but he will not get it now,"

Klopp said at a post-match press conference.

"I'm not sure we would have won today against 10 men, to be honest."

Liverpool struggled throughout the game at the Etihad Stadium, especially after conceding a goal in the first minute of the second half. They managed to take only four shots in total, while City had 17. Additionally, Liverpool had less than 25% of possession in the second half.

"I think around four performances we were OK,"

Klopp suggested.

"The two midfielders, [Jordan Henderson] and [Fabinho] worked a lot, tried to close gaps, Cody especially in possession, and [Alisson] of course, then that's obviously very difficult, if you want to get something from here then you have to have 11... 14-15 players have to be on top of their game.

"After being 3-1 down, it's anyway difficult to come back here... we had one opportunity for 3-2 with Robbo down the left side... but apart from that City could do what they want because the spaces were too big, so we were rather lucky they only scored one more."

Liverpool have suffered five defeats in the Premier League in 2023, which is one more than their total number of league defeats in the whole of 2022. In their upcoming fixtures, they will face Chelsea away and Arsenal at home as they aim to revive their chances of finishing in the top four.
