Arsenal's Takehiro Tomiyasu to miss rest of season with knee injury
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
Arsenal announced on Tuesday that Takehiro Tomiyasu will not again play this season after suffering a serious knee injury against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League last Thursday.
After a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, Mikel Arteta revealed that Tomiyasu’s injury is serious, and now the club has confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the season.
A statement from the club read:
"Following his substitution during last Thursday's Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.
"Tomi has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of the season.
"Everyone at the club will now be working hard with Tomi, so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season.”
The 24-year-old Tomiyasu had played in 21 matches across all competitions this season for Arsenal.
Arsenal who is looking to win their first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season, is eight points clear at the top of the table after 28 matches, albeit Manchester City has a game in hand.
Arteta's side will face Leed United on April 1 following the international break.
