"We dominated, we generated more chances", says Xavi after Clasico win over Real Madrid

Barcelona manager Xavi believes a 2-1 win over rivals Real Madrid in Sunday's Clasico is "a very important victory".

Barcelona get closer to their first La Liga title since 2019 after they moved 12 points clear at the top of La Liga with a 2-1 win against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Real scored in the 9th minute through Ronald Araujo’s own goal, but Sergi Roberto equalized in the 45th minute and Franck Kessie scored the second goal in stoppage time. Ancelotti’s side scored through Marco Asensio in the 81st minute, but it was ruled offside after a VAR check.

After the game, Xavi insisted that his team dominated the game, and they earned a very important victory in the title race.

"We dominated, we generated more chances,"

Xavi said.

"I am leaving satisfied. The team emptied itself and worked in defence and attack. It is a very important victory for us. I think we have been good."

"I think we had more control,"

Xavi added.

"I think we have been superior in general."

Xavi admitted that he considered starting Kessie instead of Roberto, but he is delighted that both players managed to score in Clasico.

"I had doubts until the last moment between Sergi and Franck. In the end it turned out very well because they both scored,"

Xavi said.
