Barcelona 2-1 Real Madrid: Late Kessie goal seals dramatic win

Barcelona took a significant step towards winning La Liga after Franck Kessie scored a dramatic late winner against Real Madrid.

2-1 at Cam Nou on Sunday to increase their lead at the top of the table to 12 points after 26 matches.

Real Madrid scored in the 9th minute thanks to Ronald Araujo’s own goal. Vinicius Junior chipped a cross back from near the byline down the left, and Araujo found his head in the wrong place at the wrong time to divert the ball past Ter Stegen.

Christensen could equalize from Raphinha’s cross in the 24th minute, but his header went wide. Raphinha came close to scoring in the 34th minute, but Courtois saved the goal with his fingertips.

Barcelona managed to score the equalizer in the 45th minute before half-time. Raphinha's effort was blocked, but the ball fell to Sergi Roberto, who struck a perfectly placed side-footed effort to beat Courtois.

Barcelona had a good chance to score in the 75th minute after Militao slipped, but Raphinha’s shot was saved by Courtois.

Benzema came close to scoring in the 79th minute after a poor pass from Kounde, but Ter Stegen managed to save the ball. Rodrygo also had a golden chance to score after

Busquets gave the ball away, but the Brazilian lashed his effort high over the crossbar.

Asensio scored for Real from Carvajal’s pass in the 81st minute, but it was ruled out for offside.

Real Madrid, who needed to win this match to stay in the title race was attacking late into the second half, but it was Barcelona who managed to score the winning goal. Lewandowski sent the ball to Alex Balde with a backheel, and he pulls it back into the box for Franck Kessie who put the ball into the back of the net in the second minute of stoppage time.
