Gianni Infantino re-elected as FIFA president until 2027

Following the resignation of Sepp Blatter in 2016, Infantino was elected as FIFA president and retained his position unopposed three years later.

The 52-year-old Infantino will now serve his third term as president until 2027. According to FIFA rules, a president can serve a maximum of three four-year terms, but Infantino claims his first spell did not count as a full term, and he wants to run for the position once again in 2027.

"Being President of FIFA is an incredible honour, an incredible privilege,"

Infantino said.

"It is also a great, great responsibility.

"I'm truly humbled and touched by your support. I promise you I will continue serving FIFA, serving football all over the world, serving all 211 member associations of FIFA.”

"I promise to continue serving FIFA and football around the world.

"To those that love me, and I know there are many, and those who hate me ... I love you all.”

FIFA recently announced a new 32-team Club

and Infantino said there is a need for more football.

"When I hear there is too much football, yes, maybe in some places, but not everywhere," said Infantino.

"In fact, in most parts of the world there is not enough football played.

"We need way more and not less competitions, we want football to develop worldwide.

"We are discussing organising a women's Club World Cup and a Fifa World Series in March every two years, when teams are free from playing qualifiers.”

Infantino also confirmed FIFA's income has increased massively during his time as president and promised new record revenues for the next cycle.

"Revenues rose to a record $7.5 billion [in 2022] in a period that was hit by COVID-19. When I arrived, FIFA reserves stood at around $1bn, today they are at almost $4bn,"

Infantino said.

"We promise new record revenues for the next cycle of $11bn, and the new Club World Cup is not included in that figure, so it could increase by a couple of billion [more]."
