Lionel Messi's brother issues apology over controversial comments against Barcelona

Matias Messi, Lionel Messi's brother, has apologized for his controversial comments against Barcelona.

Recently, Matias Messi claimed no one knew

Barcelona

before

Lionel Messi

played there on his son's twitch account, and also ruled out a return to the club for his brother.

Matias' comments caused controversy, and now he has apologized to Barcelona fans.

"I want to apologize for what I said on social media, I was just joking with my son and friends. How can I think like that about a club as great as Barcelona is, which has given so much to my family and Leo. For us, Catalonia is our second home and that is public knowledge. I am very sorry and I apologize to everyone, especially to the Barcelona fans. Finally I want to say that I only have the social network instagram!”

he wrote on Instagram.

Messi's representatives also released a statement on Wednesday and stated they were Matias' personal opinions.

The statement read:

”they are exclusively the individual and personal opinion of Matías, which does not have to be or coincide with that of Leo or that of other relatives, friends or people close to him."

Matias Messi was answering questions from fans on twitch and claimed Barcelona president has been ungrateful toward his brother and also criticised Barcelona supporters.

"We are not going back to Barcelona,"

Matias said.

"And if we do, we're going to do a good clear out. Among them, kick out Joan Laporta, ungrateful with all that Messi gave to Barcelona."

Messi’s brother also said the Catalans are traitors.

"People did not help him, they should have gone out to make a march or something, that Laporta goes and Messi stays."

Matias continued.

"The Catalans are traitors. My mom told Lionel once, they will treat you like Ronaldinho”.

Lionel Messi spent 20 years at Barcelona and managed to score 672 goals in 778 games.
