Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke leaves Macarthur FC after six months
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has stepped down as Macarthur FC head coach.
Macarthur FC has announced that Dwight Yorke has left his role as head coach after just thirteen games. The Australian side has confirmed that they decided to mutually terminate Yorke’s contract.
The former
Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Trinidad and Tobago forward was appointed as Macarthur manager last summer on a two-year deal. He won the Australia Cup in October.
Yorke said of his departure:
"I want to thank the chairman Gino Marra, CEO Sam Krslovic, all the ownership group as well as all the staff and fans of Macarthur FC.
"I leave the football club with a great team that will continue to challenge for more silverware.”
Macarthur FC lost with one goal away to Adelaide United on Friday. Macarthur is currently sixth in the 2022-23 A-League table with 17 points from 13 games. They have lost six of their 13 games this season.
Reports in Australia suggest that the 51-year-old Yorke may take over from Steve Corica as boss of Sydney FC. He spent a year as a player at Sydney FC. Sydney is in ninth place in the table.
Yorke scored 123 goals in the
Premier Leagueand won three league titles and one
Champions Leaguewith Manchester United.
