Tottenham 0–2 Arsenal: Gunners move 8 points clear at top of the table

With a Sunday victory over their local rivals, Arsenal moved 8 points clear at top of the Premier League table thanks to Man City’s derby defeat on Saturday.

The fifth-placed Tottenham hosted their local rivals, 

Arsenal

, in a North London Premier League derby on Sunday. While the Gunners were eager to make the most of Man City's defeat, the Spurs wanted to continue their winning run after a series of unfortunate results.

While 

Tottenham

 

held a record of three consecutive home wins over the Gunners, Arsenal were looking to complete their first league double over the Spurs since the 2013-14 season as Antonio Conte's men hosted Arsenal in a Premier League clash on Sunday.

The Gunners started the game on the front foot as they scored the opener via an own goal from the Spurs captain 

Hugo Lloris

 in the 14th minute, where Saka's shot took a slight deflection off Sessegnon before Lloris fumbles the ball over the line. 

Martin Odegaard 

doubled Arsenal's advantage in the 36th minute with a stunning strike into the bottom-right corner from 20 yards before the two teams headed to the dressing rooms at half-time with a 2-0 result.

Although Tottenham started the second half better, the Gunners continued to dominate the game but were unable to add to their advantage. With the victory, Arsenal moved 8 points clear at top of the Premier League table.
